The Foreign Press Association (DBB) made a donation to the aid campaign launched by the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) of the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Turkey to help heal the wounds of the earthquake disaster in Turkey.
According to a statement from the Foreign Press Association, President Selim Sayarı, General Secretary Taner Gönül and Finance Secretary Burhan Canbaz handed the cheque for the amount collected to Zerrin Kandemir, Counsellor of the Embassy of the Republic of Turkey in Lefkoşa, and Communications Counsellor Cihangir Şahin, to be forwarded to the AFAD aid campaign.
In his statement, DBB President Sayarı said that after the earthquake an appeal was made to the members of the Foreign Press Association and that members contributed to AFAD according to their means.
Noting that foreign press members also supported the Foreign Press Association's aid campaign, Sayarı said: “May God have mercy on our brothers and sisters who lost their lives in the earthquake; I wish a speedy recovery to the injured and offer my condolences to our nation.” Sayarı also signed the book of condolence opened at the Embassy.
