The Foreign Press Association, which brings together the TRNC representatives of media organisations broadcasting outside the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, is celebrating its 34th anniversary.
In his message on the anniversary, Foreign Press Association President Burhan Canbaz stressed that the association, with its responsibility to protect press freedom and uphold professional principles, will continue determinedly to make the rightful voice of the Turkish Cypriot people heard in the world accurately and impartially.
Canbaz also said the association contributes to the Turkish Cypriot people being represented correctly in the international arena.
Noting that the Foreign Press Association plays an active role in conveying the facts to the public against one-sided and misleading approaches, especially regarding the Cyprus issue, Canbaz stressed that, at a time when the media world is changing rapidly and digitalisation is decisive, the association and its members will keep up with the requirements of the age and continue to convey developments in Cyprus to international platforms in a timely, reliable and impartial manner.
In his message, Canbaz said: “Defending the rights our colleagues have so that they can carry out their journalism in a free environment, strengthening commitment to professional ethical values and supporting society’s access to accurate information will remain among the core priorities of our association in the new period.” He respectfully remembered all the presidents and members who contributed to the association and are no longer with us, above all Founding President Özer Hatay.
Canbaz also thanked the press community in Cyprus and the Turkish Cypriot people, who have always stood by them.
